Other international collaborations

Editorial Board

AHURI has an Editorial Board which provides high quality peer review advice for all AHURI research reports published through the National Housing Research Program. There are currently 35 members on the panel with a majority based internationally (Ireland, England, New Zealand, Scotland, Wales, USA, Canada, and the People’s Republic of China).

Events program

AHURI recognises that the generation and support of credible and high quality research has limited impact if it is not appropriately disseminated to—and engaged with—key players in the policy development and practice arenas.

To this end, we deliver a range of innovative research dissemination and engagement activities, including the AHURI Housing Research Seminar Series, roundtables for jurisdictional leaders, seminars co-hosted with organisations in allied fields, presentations of new AHURI essays and other meetings and conferences—many of which have included participation by eminent international speakers. For example, the 6th National Housing Conference included a keynote presentation by Sir Peter Nixon, former Chair, Housing Corporation UK and other presentations by Professor Ivan Turok, Professor of Urban Economic Development, University of Glasgow (Scotland) and Professor Michael Stone, University of Massachusetts (USA). The forthcoming National Housing Conference, to be co-hosted with the Queensland Government in late 2012, will also include a number of international speakers.

We have also organised speaking opportunities for visiting research academics, including Professor Ken Gibbs (University of Glasgow), Professor Mark Stephens (University of Glasgow) and Professor Susan J Smith (University of Cambridge). In April 2012 Professor Dennis Culhane, School of Social Policy & Practice, University of Pennsylvania (USA) and Dr Volker Busch-Geertsema, Chair, European Observatory on Homelessness (Germany) presenting at the inaugural Homelessness Research Conference.

International networks

AHURI is a member of two international research networks:

Asia-Pacific Network for Housing Research
The Asia-Pacific Network for Housing Research (APNHR) aims to provide a forum for housing academics, policy-makers and the like who have a strong interest in housing in the region to critically examine and review housing issues and experiences in the respective and comparative socio-political and economic contexts, and to draw lessons from outside the region.

European Network for Housing Research
The European Network for Housing Research (ENHR) is composed of researchers from a variety of social science disciplines dealing with housing and urban issues. In addition to its basic goal of supporting research, the Network also seeks to promote contacts and communications between researchers and practitioners within the housing field.

The Network sponsors major international conferences every two years, publishes a comprehensive Newsletter four times a year, provides a framework for nearly 20 working groups, encourages smaller conferences and seminars every year and has an active group of PhD students (new housing researchers).
