Professor Jan Carter

Jan Carter has a background in social research, social policy, social work and Australian studies. She has been a Professor of Social Work and Head of Department at the University of Melbourne, Professiorial Fellow and Director of Deakin University's Deakin Human Services Australia, and Director of the Social Policy and Research Centre at the Brotherhood of St Laurence.

Jan Carter is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland and Griffith University and is also Senior Advisor to Melbourne City Mission and the Sir Andrew and Lady Fairley Foundation. She has been part of many national policy development commissions and committees.
