Professor Gavin Wood
Professor Gavin Wood is Director of the AHURI RMIT-NATEM Research Centre. He previously held positions at Murdoch University, Western Australia, and the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
Professor Wood's main research interests lie in the fields of public policy and urban studies, housing finance and labour economics, and he has published widely in Australian and international refereed journals.
In 2006, Professor Wood is directing an AHURI funded project, a Collaborative Research Venture Housing Assistance and Economic Participation between RMIT University, Curtin University, Sydney University, Murdoch University and Swinburne University.
Another current project, The Implications of Loss of a Partner for Older Private Renters, aims to understand and measure the effects divorce, separation, or death of a partner have on the housing, and related financial circumstances, of older Australians (aged 50+) in particular those on income support payments.
Professor Wood is currently on the International Editorial Advisory Board of Urban Studies. He has acted as a consultant and advisor to a number of organisations including: the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the New Zealand Department of Labour, the Office of Fair Trading (WA), the Northern Housing Executive and the Australian Government's National Housing Strategy.
