Presented by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute and hosted by the  Australian Government, Department of Family and Community Services, Canberra, this event features the following speakers:

  • Gavin Wood - AHURI RMIT Research Centre
    Housing Markets, Housing Assistance and Workforce Participation
    Drawing on the latest findings from a 3 year program of research, this presentation considers the relationship between housing markets, housing assistance and employment. It also examines the roles of technical change, corporate restructuring and globalisation in urban housing and labour markets and the impacts they are having upon workforce participation.
  • Peter Phibbs - AHURI Sydney Research Centre
    Public Housing and Children’s Education
    This presentation will draw on findings from an AHURI project that centres around a longitudinal study of public housing tenants that assesses the impact of moves into public housing on a range of ‘non-shelter outcomes’, especially education outcomes for children.
  • Peter McDonald – Demography Program, ANU
    Demography as Destiny: Homeownership and Family Formation
    Drawing on findings from a number of AHURI projects, this presentation draws together the implications of demographic change for family formation and the future of home ownership in Australia.
  • Bruce Judd - AHURI UNSW-UWS Research Centre
    Renewing Communities:  Social and Spatial Strategies
    Presents findings from an AHURI project that examines the effectiveness of physical and social community renewal strategies, particularly with regard to their impacts on crime and harassment, across a range of 'community renewal' and 'control' estates in NSW, QLD and SA.
