Speakers

Professor Ivan Turok
Ivan is Director of Research in the Department of Urban Studies, University of Glasgow. He has conducted extensive research on city and regional economic development, social inclusion, labour markets, area regeneration and policy evaluation. He is also an expert adviser on urban, regional and employment policies to the United Nations, OECD, European Commission, UK and Scottish Governments, and public authorities in Ireland, Japan and South Africa. Ivan recently completed the ‘Social Cohesion’ thematic study for the landmark State of English Cities report for the UK Government. He also led the integrative case studies of Glasgow and Edinburgh under the Economic and Social Research Council’s CITIES: Competitiveness and Cohesion Programme. He is author or co-author of 'Changing Cities: Rethinking Urban Competitiveness, Cohesion and Governance' (Palgrave, 2005); 'Twin Track Cities' (Pergamon, 2004), 'The Jobs Gap in Britain's Cities' (Policy Press, 1999) and 'The Coherence of EU Regional Policy' (Jessica Kingsley, 1997).

Associate Professor Kath Hulse
Kath is Director of the AHURI Swinburne-Monash Research Centre and Associate Professor at Swinburne University’s Institute for Social Research where she conducts research and supervises postgraduate research students. Her research interests include demand and supply initiatives in the rental sector; critical analysis of housing tenure; and the linkages between aspects of housing/place, economic participation, and social cohesion. Kath has had extensive, senior level experience in research, policy development and program management in government housing and urban development agencies, and is a long-term director of a Victorian housing association.

Dr Harald Klein
Harald is Director of Neighbourhood Renewal for the Victorian Department of Human Services. As Director of Neighbourhood Renewal in Victoria, Harald is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of the State Government's priority approach to place-based inequality.

Tony Nicholson
Tony is Executive Director of the Brotherhood of St Laurence, an independent organisation with a history of developing and delivering wide-ranging and vital services to disadvantaged individuals.

Fiona Ryan-Clark
Fiona is National Affordable Housing Manager for Delfin Lend Lease.

Professor Michael Lennon
Michael Lennon is Chief Executive Officer of Housing Choices Australia (incorporating Disability Housing Trust, Supported Housing Ltd and Singleton Equity Housing Ltd). He also is currently an advisor to the Commonwealth Government on the new National Affordable Housing Agreement.
