Homelessness week highlights innovative solutions to homelessness

National Housing Conference program to focus on homelessness

9 August 2017

Taking place this week from the 7-13 August, Homelessness Week is a time to reflect on homelessness and the issues affecting the homeless. This year's theme of 'Action and Innovation' hopes to highlight innovative approaches implemented by Australia's specialist homelessness service providers.

AHURI has a wealth of resources useful to policy makers and practitioners working to improve homelessness and housing outcomes. Our research library contains over 17 years of research that has helped inform best practice for specialist services providers and policy development for government including the AHURI Inquiry into funding and delivery of programs to reduce homelessness, and launched just this week, the new report The opportunities, risks and possibilities of social impact investment for housing and homelessness.

Earlier this year, we published the policy issue analysis, 'Delivering services for people at risk of homelessness', which took an in-depth look at some of the policy development options based on both AHURI and other research as well as examples of best practice in delivering homelessness services.

AHURI will convene the National Housing Conference this year in Sydney on 29 November - 1 December. Our recently released conference program outlines the wide range of sessions focussing on the important issue of homelessness including:

  • Homelessness in 2017: is early intervention and prevention working?
  • Closing the Indigenous housing gap
  • State(s) of housing policy and the new National Housing and Homelessness Agreement
  • Digital technology for tenants and the homeless
  • Social impact investment for housing and homelessness
  • Collaboration, culture and community: leading practice in homelessness

The full program is available at the National Housing Conference website and our discounted Early Bird registration rate is available until this Friday 11 August.
