What can the service do for me?

The AHURI Research Synthesis Service can respond quickly to requests for synthesis of the existing evidence on your topic and provide outputs tailored to your purpose.

The service ensures confidence that your decisions are based on the best available evidence. It can make research more accessible and provide you with resources for innovation and problem-solving.

The AHURI Research Synthesis Service can:

  1. Identify and evaluate the evidence relevant to your decision-making – assessment of research availability, currency, credibility, gaps and limitations.
  2. Deliver a highly targeted synthesis of the evidence within agreed timeframes. Written synthesis can be presented, for example, in tabular or narrative styles to suit your requirements.
  3. Communicate the research findings and engage you in understanding and ownership of the evidence, using presentation or workshop formats.
  4. Generate decision-making implications from the evidence using interactive processes with you and your team, or as part of the synthesis report.
  5. Update the synthesis with new research and data as it becomes available, or on a regular basis.
Remember the service is oriented toward meeting your needs in scope, timeframe and purpose and all elements are negotiable.

What does a typical synthesis look like?

Most projects can be delivered within one to six weeks.

While the AHURI Research Synthesis Service specialises in timely, independent advice which is often confidential, some of our work contributes to the broader housing policy evidence base. A selection of publicly available Synthesis reports can be viewed here.

In 2010 the Service was commissioned by Shelter NSW to synthesise Australian and international evidence on the nature of housing stress for low-moderate income households, and policy and program interventions to assist these families into sustainable, affordable housing. The report, Intermediate housing markets and effective policy responses, is available from the Shelter NSW website.

In 2011, the Service was commissioned by VicHealth to conduct a comprehensive research synthesis of the relationship between housing and health. The synthesis establishes the breadth of the international evidence base and interrogates current ideas and assumptions underlying housing-related health interventions. The report, Precarious housing and health, is available from the VicHealth website.
