Homelessness
This research theme examines the needs of those in housing crisis or at immediate risk of homelessness, and how to assist the homeless to secure sustainable housing solutions as a basis for supporting stable life conditions.
Homelessness describes a multitude of experiences for a disparate range of social groups. Although this complexity makes it impossible to speak of easy ‘answers' to homelessness, research demonstrates there are broad principles for effective prevention and intervention.
AHURI research has examined:
- homelessness prevention and early intervention programs for school children
- young people in rural areas
- older people
- the costs and benefits of homelessness for governments
- how to meet the needs of those in housing crisis or at risk of homelessness, such as ex-prisoners
- how to assist the homeless to secure sustainable housing solutions
- Indigenous homelessness
