AHURI’s Executive Director Dr Michael Fotheringham has joined the Board of Homelessness Australia – the national peak body for homelessness in Australia. The Homelessness Australia (HA) Board operates on a voluntary basis and is chaired by Jenny Smith (CEO, Council to Homeless Persons Victoria) with Katherine McKernan (CEO, Homelessness NSW) as Deputy Chair.

The Australian Government has announced in principle support for a number of important recommendations in their response to a House of Representative Inquiry into the Australian Government’s role in the development of cities.

The Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) is pleased to announce the COVID-19 Research Agenda — eight priority research projects that will help governments at all levels make the best housing policy decisions during and following the coronavirus pandemic.

The Australian Government’s Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs has released its report from the ‘Inquiry into the adequacy of Newstart and related payments and alternative mechanisms to determine the level of income support payments in Australia’. The report made 27 recommendations in total and proposed a number of important recommendations in relation to housing welfare programs.

Research is underway for the suite of projects funded by AHURI as part of the 2020 National Housing Research Program (NHRP).
