AHURI CONFERENCE SPEAKER
Jonathan Shapiera is the founder of South West Australian Homeless People (SWAHP).
After many years with a career in IT, then a few unexpected life occurrences, Jonathan and his son wound up homeless.
Living out of a car for nearly 3 years, this father and son went through some horrific episodes of knowing what it is like to live rough.
In 2014, Jonathan established SWAHP, submitted a document to the Federal Senate and led the first ever homeless group to give evidence to a Federal Senate Housing Inquiry.
One of his suggestions was upheld by Federal Government.
Now Jonathan communicates his lived experience episode to others to bring awareness of the problems being homeless.
He advocates on behalf of the homeless of Western Australia and strives to enable change through policy and communicating to the public of how close we can all become to being homeless.
