National Homelessness Conference 2018
Chief Executive Officer, BeyondHousing
Celia joined Rural Housing Network Limited (RHNL) in 2002 as an advocate for public housing tenants. In 2007 she was appointed Client Services Manager (West Hume) and 3 years later became Operations Manager.
Celia was appointed CEO in July 2013. BeyondHousing (previously Rural Housing Network) provides housing and homelessness services in the Goulburn Valley and North East Victoria. Last year, BeyondHousing assisted more than 5000 households and owns and/or manages over 700 properties.
As CEO, Celia’s focus is on a strong commitment to the values of the organisation including Creativity, Fairness, Rights, Quality and Collaboration. A vision for a place where all people are treated with respect and receive the best possible service.
Celia is a passionate advocate for safe, secure and affordable housing for all people.
She believes that most Australians don’t understand the fundamental causes of homelessness and is committed to raising awareness of homelessness and its impact on individuals, families and the broader community.
Celia believes that regional services are struggling to meet demand as there is an inflow of people seeking employment and affordable housing whilst at the same time family violence, alcohol and other drugs, and mental health issues are as prevalent in regional areas, as in metropolitan Australia. She sees strong partnerships with Government and the community and private sectors as key to finding long term solutions for affordable housing.
Celia’s expertise in regional housing issues was acknowledged when she was invited to join the Victorian Minister for Housing’s Family Violence Housing Assistance Taskforce in June 2016, and she received the Beth Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award in the 2017 Victorian Homelessness Awards
