Swinburne University of Technology has awarded one of the two 2016 VC Research Excellence Awards to the AHURI - Swinburne Research Centre. The award honours the AHURI Swinburne research group for excellence in housing and urban research achievements, both recently and over past years.
A core team of 12 AHURI researchers were awarded the honour:

- Prof Terry Burke - former Director
- Prof Peter Newton - former and foundational Director
- A/Prof David MacKenzie
- Dr Angela Spinney
- Dr Andrea Sharam
- Dr Sharon Parkinson
- Dr Sean McNelis
- Dr Stephen Glackin
- Liss Ralston
- Margaret Reynolds
In addition, Professor Terry Burke was awarded a VC Lifetime Achievement Award for his research, teaching and engagement excellence over more than 40 years at Swinburne and in recognition of his lifetime commitment to housing and urban excellence nationally and internationally.
