AHURI joins Queensland Government's housing supply panel
Panel to advise on housing supply and affordability issues in South East Queensland
17 July 2018
Dr Michael Fotheringham, Executive Director of AHURI, has been invited by the Queensland Government to be a member of the new expert panel advising on housing supply for South East Queensland.
Dr Fotheringham said ‘I’m very pleased to be part of this important initiative of the Queensland Government, and know that AHURI has a lot of valuable experience and knowledge to bring to the discussion. We’re very keen to help the Queensland Government deliver the best possible affordable and appropriate housing outcomes for the region.’
The population of the South East Queensland region will increase by two million people by 2041 and will require about 794,000 new dwellings to be delivered over the next two decades.
In a press release Cameron Dick, the Queensland Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning, said ‘It’s important that we manage growth efficiently, while keeping a close eye on housing affordability. The panel will provide independent advice to the government on how to manage housing supply and affordability issues in South East Queensland.’ Mr Dick said the panel consists of high calibre professionals from across the property, planning, economics and demography disciplines.
