What can we learn from Europe about tackling homelessness?

Third international keynote announced for National Homelessness Conference

Respected UK academic Professor Nicholas Pleace, who is one of the foremost experts on how to implement and operate effective Housing First programs is the third international guest speaker to join the National Homelessness Conference program.

Professor Pleace, the Director Centre for Housing Policy at the University of York in the UK has immense experience with employing the Housing First model to reduce homelessness and is the author of the Housing First Guide, Europe (2016). The number of Housing First programs is increasing in Europe as the model is seen as a core component of a broad, integrated homelessness strategy.

Professor Pleace’s address will complement the previously announced Conference keynote presentations from international experts Juha Kaakinenn, CEO of Y Foundation, Finland, exploring Finland’s considerable success in ending homelessness, and Professor Marah Curtis, University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, engaging with research on how poverty and overlapping vulnerabilities impact on housing and homelessness.

The international guest speakers join a wide ranging program of more than 40 local experts in the expanding conference program.

The National Homelessness Conference 2018Ending Homelessness Together, will run from the 6 and 7 August 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
