Affordable private rental housing (case example)

Matching markets in housing and housing assistance

This video is a case example taken from AHURI research: Matching markets in housing and housing assistance, a project from the AHURI Inquiry into Potential of new technologies to disrupt housing policy.

Many low income private renters are in housing stress, paying more than 30% of their income in rent. Many properties that are affordable to them are let to higher income private renters, as landlords and agents may choose higher income households in the belief that they are less risky.

Brokerage Plus is a program proposal that would enter into head lease contracts with private landlords. The program would aim to match low income private renters with suitable properties at a market rate.
