    Description: This Collection offers insights from twenty of Australia’s leader academics and thinkers into the survey results of 15,000 Australian rental households. The Collection draws on data from The Australian Rental Housing Conditions Dataset funded by the Australian Research Council in partnership with six Australian universities as well an additional AHURI funded COVID-19 module.

  2. Ending homelessness in Australia: A redesigned homelessness service system

    Description: The existing Australian homelessness service system has known strengths but its effectiveness is constrained for different population groups who experience a range of other social, economic, health and justice issues. This research develops strategies to redesign the homelessness service system in Australia that could virtually end homelessness.

  3. Renting in the time of COVID-19: understanding the impacts

    Description: This research surveyed and analysed the circumstances for Australian renters during the initial phase of the COVID-19 lockdowns in July and August 2020 to identify challenges for the rental sector and to give insights into how the rental market is performing, the uptake of existing support measures and the demand for future assistance.

  4. Warm, cool and energy-affordable housing policy solutions for low-income renters

    Description: This research examined the incidence of energy hardship for Australian low income renters, and considered strategies and policy actions to reduce its impact on the lives of such households. Up to 40% of Australian households who rent their housing experience energy hardship. Energy hardship can include both absolute and relative measures of financial hardship, as well as circumstances where residents limit their energy use for normal daily activities.

  5. An effective homelessness services system for older Australians

    Description: This study investigated the issues affecting older Australians who are experiencing or facing homelessness including the capacity to access Specialist Homeless Services and other government supports, and potential ways to escape homelessness for older people. The research also considered appropriate, successful international practices for older people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

  6. Understanding Specialist Disability Accommodation funding

    Description: This study examined the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) program and the attitudes of industry to investment and participation in that program. It questioned developers, investors, housing providers, prospective tenants and governments on how the SDA program will generate new supply that meets the needs and preferences of people with disability.
