Local approaches to pandemic recovery

The Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) has implemented a range of activities in response to the pandemic, including a series of national and international policy exchanges addressing key cities and housing impacts of the pandemic, and approaches to economic and social recovery.

Across Australia, local governments have acted rapidly to provide services and support to their communities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the crisis, local government have implemented a range of measures to contain the spread, provide direct support to communities, and support the local economy. Councils and council provided services have also had to respond to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. Local Government leadership will be crucial in Australia’s economic and social recovery.

This policy exchange will share successes and learnings from responses to date, and discuss current and emerging local government initiatives to support recovery.
