COVID-19 RESEARCH HUB
Population dynamics, migration and the demography of our cities are being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and will continue to be for some time.
National policy exchange
Cities post pandemic
The Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) has implemented a range of activities in response to the pandemic, including a series of national and international policy exchanges addressing key cities and housing impacts of the pandemic, and approaches to economic and social recovery.
The effects of COVID-19 on migration, the organisation of work will profoundly impact Australia’s cities, particularly the inner city. Restricted international and interstate travel and low population mobility will continue to affect key industries and housing markets in the post-pandemic context. Higher education, hospitality, tourism and the arts which are so central to thriving inner cities face challenges in this economic climate. The building and property sectors have also been affected by changes in demand and investment.
This policy exchange will gather evidence on the ramifications of these changes and discuss the priorities for cities and urban policy in supporting national recovery.
