AHURI to present at State of Australian Cities 2019

Research project aims to unpack cities policy in Australia

27 November 2019

AHURI’s Professional Services Team will present “Making sense of ‘cities’: a thematic analysis of Australian cities policy from 1991 onwards” at next month’s State of Australian Cities Conference in Perth, based on a research project from the AHURI Cities Research Agenda.

The presentation will outline the key findings of a policy review of Federal, state and territory cities and urban policy. The review looks at where we have been—from the Building Better Cities Program in the early 1990s to the City Deals launched in 2017 and provides a comprehensive overview of what falls within the remit of ‘cities’ policy in Australia.

The AHURI presentation will be the first presentation in the ‘City Governance’ Track (Stream) of the conference program which focuses on innovation and/or disruption in urban or regional governance. The track is one of seven across the program which fall under the overall theme of ‘Cities in an Age of Disruption and Innovation’.

The SOAC Conference is a biennial meeting of the Australian Cities Research Network and this year is being held in Perth from 3 to 5 December.
