Home About AHURI Board David Kalisch David Kalisch Non-Executive Director—Independent David Kalisch is an economist with a long-standing focus on social and economic policy. He has a particular interest in the effective use of data and evidence to design and implement effective policy as well as to evaluate policy and program effectiveness. This has included implementation of major data infrastructure such as HILDA and LSAC, promotion of data linkage and the new data insights it can provide, improving access for researchers to our publicly funded data resources and government research partnerships with the university sector. Through CEO, senior executive and Board roles, he has contributed to the transformation of organisations so they are more effective and better governed. He was previously Australian Statistician and head of the ABS from 2014 to 2019, Director of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare from 2010-14, Commissioner at the Productivity Commission, consultant at the Social Policy Division of the OECD and was a senior executive at a number of Commonwealth Government agencies from 1991 to 2009. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Canberra, a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has a number of current Board and Advisory Committee roles.
