Dr Renée Lane
Senior Researcher
Renée is a senior researcher with AHURI Professional Services, specialising in homelessness, community housing, and family and domestic violence accommodation.
Before joining AHURI, Renée served as Project Lead at Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – the New Zealand Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. There, she spearheaded Aotearoa's first homelessness and housing need indicators, shifting government from five-yearly census snapshots to dynamic measures updated every six months. She also brings housing policy experience from her time at the New Zealand Ministry of Social Development, where she focused on social housing and emergency housing initiatives.
Since joining AHURI, Renée's research has directly informed state government housing agency practices and approaches. She also contributed to a rapid review of Commonwealth Government youth homelessness measures, the findings of which shaped the federal response.
Renée holds a PhD in Population Studies and Bachelor of Social Sciences (First Class Honours) in Demography. Her doctorate focused on understanding and governance of homelessness and was part of the five-year Ending Homelessness in New Zealand: Housing First program.
