Professional portrait image of Shaun Middlebrook

As a proud Wiradjuri and Yuin man and AHURI’s Principal First Nations Adviser, Shaun is responsible for facilitating and enhancing research impacting First Nations community.

He brings experience in law, policy and research design and implementation, and First Nations affairs, engagement, and advocacy.

Before joining AHURI, Shaun was Strategy and Wellbeing Manager for the Yoorrook Justice Commission in Victoria, developing its Housing and Homelessness Inquiry. Shaun also previously managed strategic policy, advocacy and communications at Aboriginal Housing Victoria, overseeing implementation of the Mana-na woorn-tyeen maar-takoort, Victoria’s Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Policy.

He holds degrees in law and management and has worked with NGOs, peak bodies, banks, and departments of Government.

He fosters strong trust within First Nations communities, and he brings to AHURI a cultural lens that addresses a blind spot that can arise in research.
