AHURI welcomes Macquarie University and The University of Queensland as new research partners

12 Dec 2025

The Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) is pleased to announce the addition of two new research partners to its national network: Macquarie University and The University of Queensland.

These appointments strengthen AHURI’s capacity to deliver independent, evidence-based research that informs housing policy across Australia.

AHURI’s partner universities collectively deliver approximately 20 policy-oriented, high-quality research reports every year as part of the National Housing Research Program.

The inclusion of a second partner university in both New South Wales and Queensland enhances the program’s representation in two of the country’s most populated states.

AHURI Managing Director, Dr Michael Fotheringham said AHURI’s extensive research network ensures its research continues to represent the breadth of housing and urban challenges facing our cities and regions.

“Our research network is the foundation of AHURI’s success,” Dr Fotheringham said.

“Welcoming Macquarie University and The University of Queensland enriches AHURI’s capacity to provide timely insights into issues that matter most to Australians – such as housing affordability, homelessness and sustainable urban development.”

AHURI also acknowledges and thanks outgoing research partner the University of Tasmania, which has been a valued member since AHURI’s inception 25 years ago.

“The University of Tasmania’s contribution has been integral to shaping housing and homelessness policy in Australia, and we recognise the depth of expertise and commitment they have brought to the network,” Dr Fotheringham said.

With these changes, AHURI’s research network remains strong and collaborative, continuing to deliver the rigorous, independent research that policymakers, industry and communities rely on.
