26 Feb 2025

The AHURI research team recently attended the Australasian Housing Researchers Conference held in Sydney, to connect with the housing research sector and consider potential housing futures.

At this event, AHURI awarded two researchers for their work and impact in housing research, with recipients from Swinburne University and Curtin University.

Dr Terry Burke, Emeritus Professor of Housing Studies at Swinburne University, was awarded the Professor Mike Berry Award for Excellence in Housing Research.

The Professor Mike Berry Award for Excellence in Housing Research, also known as 'The Berry' is an award presented each year at the Australasian Housing Researchers Conference, with the recipient receiving an engraved award and a $1,000 cash prize, sponsored by Housing Choices Australia.

Dr Burke was awarded 'best paper' with the The Berry Award in recognition of recent research, celebrating his impact in housing research.

The second award recipient was Dr Christopher Phelps, Research Fellow at the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance, Curtin University, who received the Federal Minister’s Early Career Housing Researcher Award.

Sponsored by AHURI, this award recognises an up and coming researcher for their recent efforts in the housing research space.

Congratulations to both Dr Burke and Dr Phelps for their incredible accomplishments in housing research.
