Forever renting: a new reality for the Australian Dream

The rising proportion of Australians renting in the private market is a multigenerational phenomenon not just affecting young people, according to new AHURI research. While four in five Australian renters aspire to home ownership, less than half expect they will ever own their own home.

So is a cultural and policy shift needed to support a new Australian Dream?

This webinar breaks down new AHURI research findings on the home ownership expectations and aspirations for people of all ages, and the different groups of people who rent long term. It will also explore housing, wealth and retirement system implications for people who may never own their own home.

Lead researcher, Professor Emma Baker, University of Adelaide will discuss the key findings of the research with Trina Jones, Inaugural Rental Commissioner for NSW Government, facilitated by Dr Michael Fotheringham, Managing Director, AHURI.

Who should attend: Anyone shaping or implementing policy relating to property tenure, or anyone interested in the changing outlook for home ownership and private rental rates in Australia.
