Michael Fotheringham joins Homelessness Australia Board

AHURI's Executive Director participation on the Board builds on the strong relationship between the organisations

27 May 2020

AHURI’s Executive Director Dr Michael Fotheringham has joined the Board of Homelessness Australia – the national peak body for homelessness in Australia.

The Homelessness Australia (HA) Board operates on a voluntary basis and is chaired by Jenny Smith (CEO, Council to Homeless Persons Victoria) with Katherine McKernan (CEO, Homelessness NSW) as Deputy Chair.

Michael’s participation on the Board builds on the strong relationship between the two organisations following the revival of the National Homelessness Conference in 2018 – jointly convened by AHURI and HA.

The 2018 Conference held in Melbourne for the first time in 4 years was embraced by the sector, attracting 800 delegates. The Conference was due to be held this August in Canberra but is currently on hold as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. An update on a postponed conference date will be announced soon.

AHURI has an in-depth catalogue of research on homelessness delivered by some of Australia’s leading academics over the last 20 years. The final reports from AHURI’s current Inquiry into an effective homelessness services system are expected to be published in the coming months.
