Queensland Government engages AHURI to model housing futures

AHURI has begun work with the Queensland Government to develop a robust model to predict housing supply and demand across Queensland.

The model will incorporate both historical information and predictive analysis of future settlement patterns to frame and guide the Queensland Government’s housing investment priorities and its long-term understanding of the State’s housing system. The model will take into account all forms of social housing, emergency homelessness accommodation as well as the private housing market, including rental housing.

‘This important work will help the Queensland Government make the best decisions into what types of housing are required and where will they be best located well into the future’, says Dr Tom Alves, Head of Professional Services and Strategic Initiatives at AHURI. ‘AHURI’s research teams are excited to be making such a significant contribution to Queensland’s future.’

The Queensland Minister for Communities and Housing, the Hon Leeanne Enoch, says ‘This government understands the importance of hearing from the right experts to inform policy, which is why we have engaged the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute to develop this model for us.’
