The Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) is pleased to continue to advise Queensland’s newly expanded Housing Supply Expert Panel, with the reappointment of AHURI Managing Director, Dr Michael Fotheringham to the panel. 

Critical life events experienced by households, such as divorce, losing a job or being diagnosed with an acute health condition, can lead to housing stress, in which household resources are not enough to manage the costs of housing.

The research, ‘Business models, consumer experiences and regulation of retirement villages’, undertaken for AHURI by researchers from University of Tasmania, UNSW and Synergy Consulting, explores the business models used by retirement villages, and surveys residents to understand the appeal, benefits and disadvantages of living in retirement village accommodation.
